What is Belote Andr Free, you might ask. The card game is described as a trick-taking game that requires 32 cards. While it is predominantly a French game, it is also commonly played in other European countries like Greece, Croatia, Armenia, Cyprus, and Bulgaria. Belote is France’s national card game and usually popular in gambling circles. Invented around the 1920s, the deck only consists of 32 cards (four of each: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, and 7).

The rules of the card game may vary, depending on the location. However, much of the rules are the same, including the rule on the not shuffling of the deck. So Belote is best played with four players, forming two teams: the North-South and the East-West.

Instead of shuffling the deck, one player cuts it. Then the dealer deals the cards in a counter-clockwise direction, beginning to the person to his or her right-hand side. And each player initially receives three cards while the rest remain face-down.

Every player may offer a bid. This is known as suggesting a contract. If the other team contests to this bid, they may say “Coinche” to dispute it. Then the bidding team may take on the challenge by responding with a “Re-contra” or “Surcoinche.”
