Contra Returns will treat you with a brief introduction followed by a visual control tutorial the moment you open the app. The game will then take you to the main tutorial that covers the battle elements, mechanics, and rules in the game. The main tutorial level will provide you with an overview of the entire game.

Your first mission resembles the first stage of the original version set in the Galuga Archipelago. The game will introduce various new features in the game after each level. After that, simply follow the instructions provided in the tutorial and you should be alright.
