When you think of llamas, you likely imagine these hairy cute creatures with long necks, eat grass all day, and spit on people. But Pablo is not like all llamas out there. He is more interested in exploring ancient ruins that were built by the Inca llamas of the past. This is the storyline of the casual game Adventure Llama. Published by Orube Game Studio, it’s a puzzle adventure game where Pablo goes inside temples and collects gold artifacts.
But this won’t be a walk in the park since the temple will be full of various obstacles and puzzles that need solving. The obstacles and puzzles, though, are not that difficult to solve. And this is primarily because Pablo is good at moving forward and jumping. If he hits a wall, he will turn around and move in the opposite direction until he either hits a wall again or falls on the obstacles.
This adventure game has a simple gameplay that also becomes challenging as you progress further. But is this a fun puzzle game that’s worth downloading or is it something not worth it? Read on this Adventure Llama game review.
The Gameplay of Adventure Llama
The gameplay of Adventure Llama is very simple. Pablo’s goal in the temples is to collect all the shiny gold artifacts. As mentioned earlier, this is a side-scrolling game similar to the Super Mario game, so Pablo can only go straight or go the other way if he hits a wall. Also, there will be gaps that you’ll need to jump over along the way. Or platforms that you’ll need to jump over to reach higher places.
In terms of controls, Pablo will automatically move forward so your job is to help him avoid gaps or obstacles along the way. You must tap or click once to help him jump. And tap + hold when the gap is too wide. When you do, a balloon will appear strapped to Pablo, allowing him to glide smoothly onto the next platform. Remember the balloons won’t help him fly, rather it will help him fall steadily.
When collecting artifacts, you can only collect the one that’s already shining. After collecting the first shining artifact, another one will shine, leading you to find them one after another. To complete the level, you must collect all shiny artifacts. Some levels are harder and will require you to find buttons to unlock the well-hidden artifacts.
What’s Good about Adventure Llama
You can see from the gameplay that it’s a simple game with a bit of challenge. Let’s now look at what makes this a good and bad game.
Simple & Easy-to-Learn Gameplay with a bit of a Challenge
One of the things that you will enjoy about Adventure Llama is its simple and easy-to-earn gameplay. There’s no steep learning curve and even the need for a tutorial. The gameplay and controls are very easy to figure out, so the game is not hard for kids to learn. Your only goal is to make sure you won’t fall through gaps and into the water while collecting the gold artifacts and you’re all set.
Of course, this is easier said than done. The game becomes challenging as you progress further since the gap, obstacles, and layout becomes harder to navigate. And since Pablo continually moves forward, you have to constantly pay attention wherever he goes.
When you first play Adventure Llama, you’d likely mistake it for an old classic game. But the game is actually content-rich. It has many different levels for you to complete, with each one unique from another. Aside from that, there are also other game modes like endless mode and time trial. You can even purchase costumes for Pablo to make him look cooler while exploring various temples.
It’s a game that offers you a lot, something that you won’t expect from it at an initial look. You won’t get bored playing this game because of the extensive content it provides.
What’s Bad about Adventure Llama
If there’s good, there is also a negative feature about the game.
Too Many Ads
In terms of negative features, there really isn’t a lot about Adventure Llama. The only annoyance that you’ll likely have to deal with is the ads. The game has too many video ads popping up. Though this is mostly an annoyance at best, some people might not like watching too many video ads before playing. For some people, this can be an issue and a deal-breaker, most importantly if you’re someone who doesn’t like ads getting shoved your way.
Looking at the good and bad things about Adventure Llama and the gameplay it offers, we decide to give it a 4.5 out of 5. Yes–the constant ads can be a bit annoying to deal with, but at best, it’s just an annoyance. It doesn’t take away much of what the game provides. This casual adventure game’s simple gameplay and rich content is a good enough reason for you to ignore the constant ads. Sure enough, this game is definitely worth downloading and playing.
